Our goal at Han Mi Martial Arts is to train effective martial arts for self-defense and sport; teach in a clear and positive way; & create a friendly and welcoming community.
We teach self-defense and martial arts to adults, teens, and children from Damascus, Clarksburg, Ijamsville, Laytonsville, New Market, Mt Airy, Germantown, Urbana, and other parts of upper Montgomery and lower Frederick County, MD.

For ages 4-7 all the kids had fun and were engaged. Helped my son pick up what was happening very quickly and we had a ton of fun! Teaches respect and discipline too
I’ve been going to Han Mi for over 2 years, and I can’t say enough good things! The Han Mi community is amazing, kind, supportive, caring, and has your learning in a friendly environment as their top priority. I have gained confidence both by training in Kendo and Jiujitsu. Brought my child here a few times for lessons. Every time I came, I felt uncomfortable. Uncomfortable with the instructor. The way he was obsessed with one of his kid student. The way he’d look at them. Made me feel uneasy. What made me even more uncomfortable was that the child’s parents would leave the child there and not come back until class was finished. Just… be careful. You never know.
Coach is very attentive to the kids during class and provided great instruction.
My son enjoyed taking taekwondo classes here for almost a year and a half, and my wife loved the women's self-defense classes for over a year. Everyone there was always super helpful and responsive if there were ever any questions. Master Thompson is a top notch instructor and it was great to see his passion for what he does every time we were there.
