Our goal at Han Mi Martial Arts is to train effective martial arts for self-defense and sport; teach in a clear and positive way; & create a friendly and welcoming community.
We teach self-defense and martial arts to adults, teens, and children from Damascus, Clarksburg, Ijamsville, Laytonsville, New Market, Mt Airy, Germantown, Urbana, and other parts of upper Montgomery and lower Frederick County, MD.

This martial arts place is great for jui jitsu. My boys and my daughter are experienced in 5 different martial arts, as we are a military family and move alot. Whe. Mtnh7sband told.me.yo take them to jui jitsu, i disapproved. I looked at 4 different jui jitsu places, but knew i was in the right place as soon as I walked in and spoke to Voach Matt. My daughter became a women's instructor and my boys consider this place a second home. When they started, their father was deployed, so Coach Matt and the others created a supportive environment even when they were struggling with transition to another duty station, a deployment, and also from preteen to teenagers. I am so proud of how far all 3 have come..soo much that I joined a year ago myself. I was never interested in jui jitsu but now I get excited for each class. My entire family is now s part of the community and we feel blessed to have a great support system.
Been going here for a little over a year now, and I just can't get enough of martial arts! All the staff and teachers are really friendly and have no problem helping you with any questions or trouble with any techniques you're having. The students are also great as well! I've met a lot of great and friendly people in my time at Han Mi Martial Arts. Matt is a great teacher with a lot of experience in martial arts and explains every lesson clearly and concisely. I highly recommend Han Mi Martial Arts if you're interested in learning BJJ, Taekwondo, or Kendo!
Matt is an amazing teacher, full of knowledge and will take his time to make sure everyone in his classes are able to comprehend. My children love the classes and have made new friends. Matt has helped them build confidence, respect for themselves and others.
For ages 4-7 all the kids had fun and were engaged. Helped my son pick up what was happening very quickly and we had a ton of fun! Teaches respect and discipline too
My son enjoyed taking taekwondo classes here for almost a year and a half, and my wife loved the women's self-defense classes for over a year. Everyone there was always super helpful and responsive if there were ever any questions. Master Thompson is a top notch instructor and it was great to see his passion for what he does every time we were there.
