We chose this location because we have been a part of the Damascus community for over 20 years and this has become home to us and our children. The town is comprised of families and residents who desire good food with great service without having to leave their small town environment. About Hornets Nest Grille
The best thing about this place is the food and I had not had a burger that good in a very long time and despite being around the Metro DC area I absolutely want to go back as soon as I can to try other food. I had chosen to stop at this restaurant after finding a cheap place to fill gas after an event nearby and this looked like the best place to get food which I am very grateful for picking. The atmosphere isn't that great with it being an older bar restaurant type establishment feel and the outdoor patio in the front is very cramped but the great food easley over looks that. Staff was pretty good but at times the waitress cared more about chatting with co-workers rather than attending to customers but only a minor downside as they still were pretty attentive for most things and seeing if there were any other needs or such. All extra toppings were extra with the burger but it was still reasonably priced already and it was cooked perfectly. I rarely ever get 5 Star reviews but the food at hornet's nest grille was something I greatly look forward to having again so despite a number of negatives which I feel is impossible to avoid that they earned a high Mark rating which I rarely ever give due to the value towards the quality of food.
The Hornets Smith Grill is a cozy restaurant in Damascus right off Main Street. The restaurant definitely has a hometown field and is decorated with Damascus high school jerseys and team pictures. I went there for lunch on a weekday and had a very nice experience. The food and service were both very good! I ordered the cream of crab soup, it is a pretty generous portion, even for the small size and it’s topped with real crab. It was delicious, maybe one of the best cream of crab soups I’ve eaten in a very long time. I also had the fish and chips, the portions were generous, enough for two meals. My friend ordered the Reuben sandwich which I sampled. This is what I’ll get next time! That bread was grilled perfectly so that you had a nice crunch when bite into it and the meat was very flavorful! And, it was a huge sandwich! The service was just right and I will definitely be back to this restaurant. Every town needs a restaurant like this! (One note about parking, there is a sign on the side of the building that says parking only for an address and certain suites or be towed. It does not match the address of the restaurant, but apparently you can park there. I had to call the restaurant to be sure. The signage should be clear as to who is allowed to park in that lot.)
We come through Damascus once a year to cut a tree in Woodbine. We used to stop yearly, but now can’t stop because we take the dogs inside. However, it was a fairly warm day for late November so we were able to stop and eat outside. We had amazing service and delicious food. Their homemade ranch dressing is amazing and I bought a jar to go! My husband loves their fish and chips and I’m a fan of the cream of crab soup. The fried pickles with ranch dressing was delicious! They have a really great selection on the menu and prices are reasonable.
Hornet's Nest Grille is definitely one of the best places to eat in Damascus. Located on Main Street in Downtown, this is my go-to place whenever I'm meeting someone for lunch in Damascus. The food is great American grill food: burgers, soups, salads, sandwiches, pot pies, fish and chips, etc. The food is reliably good every time I go. I can vouch for the Reuben and Rachel sandwiches. I've had both, with the Rachel being a slight variation from the traditional Reuben by swapping the corned beef and sauerkraut for turkey and coleslaw. I've had the fries and the onion rings, and you can't go wrong with either. I've heard great things about the quesadillas, and I'll have to try the chicken pot pie on my next visit! The staff is friendly, attentive and on point. No long waits for your drinks, food, check, etc. Damascus has a small-town vibe and it's almost impossible to not run into someone you know if you're a local. If you want to watch a game on Sunday, get there early, because you won't be the only one! It's small, but a fun place to be on a Sunday. And for anyone not interested in cooking for Thanksgiving, Hornet's Nest will do the cooking for you, all you have to do is pick it up! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they will cater Thanksgiving for you by offering a very nice Thanksgiving dinner pre-order carryout menu which serves 6-8. Been here multiple times over the last year and it's excellent. Most of the extras are home made, which makes it much easier to deal with allergies. They are also very receptive to checking dishes to make sure they don't have allergies either. The mashed potatoes were 5/5 excellent and all dishes I've had so far have been solid.
